Stearman PT-17 George Andrews (Daedalian Life Member # L0784), Ret. Col. USAF, soloed in 1938 at Flushing, NY in an Aeronca. He joined the Air Corps. and soon after began his military career flying a Stearman. When his training was completed he transitioned into the B-17’s. George flew 50 missions out of Africa and Italy during WW ll.
Over the years George has owned many light aircraft from a J-3, to a Piper Cherokee including a Stinson Reliante (gull wing).
After retiring from the Air Force, George’s interest in flying has covered many years including owning the South Omaha Airport for 30 years with the late Harry McCandless. |
